Toasty Tuesday

The temperature is going up this week.   Time to cool off with some cold wine.  Stop by on Tuesday as we sip on a crisp Riesling from the Mosel.

2021 Clean Slate, Mosel Riesling     $11
A great change your mind wine for people who think they don’t like Riesling. Grapes from the Lower Mosel provide mineral notes, grapes from the Middle Mosel create a hint of spiciness and grapes from the Upper Mosel supply fresh, peach flavors. The result is a clean, fresh flavor and a perfectly balanced taste profile.

Hot Fun In the Summertime

Memorial Day has come and gone.  You’ve had a grueling 4-day work week.  You deserve a glass of wine.  It’s Summer.

This weekend we’ll be tasting some fine summery wines.  We’re not sure order we’ll be opening them in but stop in and see what is pouring.

2021 Count Karolyi, Grüner Veltliner  $13
Hungary
This GV is bursting with aromas of ripe apples and apricots. Well-balanced, dry and refreshing.
12% alcohol by volume

2021 Domaine e Mougin, Pays de L’Aude  $13
30% Merlot, 20% Syrah, 15% Marsalan, 15% Carrignan, 10% Grenache, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon
A great summer red from the south of France that uses all with wineries red varietals.  Dark berry fruits (black currants, blueberry) with hints of violet & spice Palate: A full bodied round wine with lively acidity, dark berry fruit notes & balanced tannins
on the finish.

2021 San Marzano, Edda Bianco  $20
60% Chardonnay, 20% Fiano, 20% Wild Muscatel
Salento
An aromatic blend of Chardonnay, Moscatello, and Fiano that is flat out amazing for the price. The Moscatello matches the Chardonnay in richness, and adds notes of citrus fruits and white flowers, while the Fiano gives minerality from the layers of calcareous soils, the hallmark of whites from Puglia.

2020 Henri Bourgeois, ‘Petit Bourgeois’ Rosé  $10
100% Pinot Noir
This Loire Valley Rosé is fresh, with a notable savory streak amid the white cherry and peach flavors. A light stony echo adds zing on the finish.

Etna

Sicily’s Mount Etna is the highest active volcano in Europe. The soils have volcanic origin and are derived from the disintegration of the masses of lava, ashes and lapilli giving the vines a unique character. The Tornatores, one the oldest wine growing families on Mt. Etna, have lived in Sicily since 1680 and trace their Etna grape growing back to 1865.  Join us Saturday as we taste a pair of wines from Tornatore.

2021 Tornatore, Etna Bianco  $22
Carricante
From vineyards 1000 feet up Mt. Etna, this wine offers pleasant hints of grapefruit, white peach and herbs on the nose. The palate has a lovely texture and freshness complemented by an extraordinary minerality. 12.5% alcohol by volume

2019 Tornatore, Etna Rosso  $22
95% Nerello Mascalese, 5% Nerello Cappuccio
A uniquely rich and focused wine made of the indigenous Nerello Mascalese grape. It expresses itself with aromas of cherry juice and preserves, wild strawberry and a very characteristic volcanic and mineral intensity that is unique only to the wines of Mt. Etna’s volcanic soil.

2020 Cline Family Cellars,  Seven Ranchlands North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon  $18
The Cline founders were busy raising seven children and farming their seven vineyard ranches. Out of them they make a series of single varietals. This Sonoma Cab explodes with blueberry, blackberry pie, elderberry, plum jam, slight cigar box, and mocha oak notes. With a long finish and fine-grained tannins and invigorating freshness.  It is a big bodied California Cab at a great price.

2020 Quinta de Chocapalha, Arinto Branco  $14
100% Arinto
Portugal
This Lisbon-region White has a very fresh and aromatic nose with citric fruit, green apple and mineral notes. On the palate it is fresh, with fine intensity, balanced and natural acidity very typical from Arinto grapes, with long aftertaste.

2020 Wine & Soul, Manoella Tinto  $26
60% Touriga Nacional, 25% Touriga Franca, 10% Tinta Roriz, 5% Tinta Francisca
This Douro Red blend imparts fresh notes of raspberry, blackberry and spices. On the palate, this wine shows round and velvety tannins, good concentration, and a long finish.

Sunday we’ll join the M.O.B. in Dao.

2019 M.O.B. (Moreira, Olazabal & Borges) Lote 3 Branco  $16
45% Encruzado 45% Bical 10% Malvasia Fina
Dao
This Dao White is given a beautiful golden color by the maturation and richness of Encruzado and Bical grapes. Its’ subtle aromatics are dominated by a complex bouquet of white fruit, herbs, and minerality. Luxurious in the mouth but then very well balanced and long due to its great acidity.

2017 M.O.B. (Moreira, Olazabal & Borges) Lote 3 Tinto $18
40% Touriga Nacional, 30% Alfrocheiro, 30% Jaen
This Dao Red blend delivers aromas of black and blue fruits with hints of woodsmoke. Medium bodied with flavors of blackberry, elderberry, gingerbread, and hints of vanilla.

2021 La Bastide des Oliviers, Vendange Manuelle Rosé  $15
50% Cinsault, 20% Grenache, 20% Carignan, 10% Syrah
The Mourlan family has organically farmed their 10 acres of vines for two generations.  Their rosé has true Provence style, dry and crisp with tangerine and citrus flavors that are powerful and elegant at the same time.  Organic

2021 Vetriccie, Corse Rose  $16
50% Niellucciu, 35% Sciaccarellu, 15% Grenache
The wine jumps out of the glass with aromas of red berries, melon and pomegranate kissed with a touch of wet stone. This rosé is deliciously delicate and washes over the palate with wave after wave of energetic fresh fruit flavors. Perfectly balanced, this wine exhibits a beautiful marriage of fine minerality and elegant acidity.

2018 I Pentri Flora, Falanghina ‘Beneventano’  $18
Campania
This southern Italian Falanghina emerges from the glass as an exotic, totally beguiling White. Apricots, white truffles, flowers, honey and mint are all woven together beautifully in this exceptional, polished wine.

Tax Day Tonic

It always hurts a bit when you have to write the check to the IRS.  So this weekend we’ll be pouring some budget wines to take the sting out of April 18th.  Of course if you got a big refund we have some fancier wines on the shelf to help celebrate.  Come go wild.

2020 Castaño Monastrell Tinto  $10
Spain
This 100% Monastrell blooms rich aromas of ripe plum on a bakery background that also shows elegant balsamic notes. Light and complex, its palate is delicate, soft, but equally rich and juicy. Good balance.

2019 Domaine Pélaquié “Laudun” Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages Blanc  $13
40% Clairette, 15% Grenache, 15% Roussane, 15% Voignier, 10% Bourboulene, 5% Marsanne
This White blend of Rhône Valley varietals has an intense nose of flowers and white stone fruits and is refreshing on the palate with a long, fruity finish.

2014 Telmo Rodriguez ‘La Social Partidas de la Granja’ Rioja  $12
Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano
Spain
This Rioja Red has a thick texture that delivers plum, forest floor and mineral flavors, supported by well-integrated tannins and balsamic acidity. More savory than fruity, but remains balanced.

Argentinean Cabernet

It’s Tuesday, so why not.

2019 Durigutti, Cabernet Sauvignon Clásico  $15
Brothers Héctor and Pablo Durigutti are two of Argentina’s most sought after enologists.  This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon strikes a great balance between concentration and freshness that starts from the nose. Black cherries, dark plums and blackberries are intermixed with fresh herbs, mineral notes and spices. The palate is composed of interwoven blue fruit with robust tannins.

Produced from young vines–“Les Jeunes Vignes”–this refreshing, very fruity Rosé will seduce you with its bouquet of ripe red fruits. It’s easy to drink, fresh and particularly well-balanced in structure and aromas.

2017 Flegenheimer Bros. ‘Out of the Park’ Petite Sirah  15
100% Petite Sirah
This McLaren Vale PS is loaded with brooding blackberry fruit and a dose of peppery clove-like spice. It is medium to full-bodied, with concentrated dusty tannins that linger on the finish.

Little Canyon

This fresh wine from Domaine de Couron is named for the Gorge d Ardeche locally known as the “European Grand Canyon”.  Come paddle along with us this Tuesday as we sip our way down the river.

An unoaked blend of Grenache and Syrah. The little canyon is warm, juicy and layered with generous wild berry, plum and spice with a smooth juicy finish.
